On top of our 5K and 1 Mile Walk & Wag In Person Event we have decided to add a Virtual 5K so even if you can't come you can help support our Rescue! To find out more information follow the link below. There is still time to sign up for our in person event online through September 20th and then in person the morning of our event starting at 9am. Please share and help spread the word.

About Us

Freedom Ride Animal Rescue was founded by Phil Cooper and Brandy Woehler in July 2022. Phil is an animal lover who has been involved in many animal rescues over the past 20 years; including transportation, volunteering and a former President of WIAR Rescue. Brandy has always loved animals and has been working with them for the past 5 years between volunteering and until recently a shelter director for WIAR Rescue. In May of 2022 they decided to form a Rescue to help fill a much needed void in the rescue community; with the help of our dedicated volunteers we were able to start our Free Microchip Clinics in December 2022. Transportation is a large part of our rescue; helping dogs who are at kill-shelters find placement with no-kill rescues is one of our main priorities. We work with many local rescues and organizations traveling anywhere from 2-4 hours on average per transport some longer than others but all as important as the last. June 2022 - June 2024 we have already helped save 370 dogs and cats and driven over 24,455 miles! We also hold multiple Free Microchip Clinics throughout our area microchipping over 375 dogs and cats to date. 100% of donations we receive go towards the vetting and transportation of animals in need.

What's Happening

June 28th, 2024

This afternoon Brandy traveled to Kahoka, MO to pick up 2 cocker spaniels for our friends at Rockstar Cocker Rescue and then headed back to Galesburg, IL. Meet Missy a 3 year female and this handsome 11 week old male puppy. If interested in any dogs that we transport please make sure to check out the rescue listed for any updates on these dogs and all of their other available animals for adoption. Thank you to Rockstar Cocker Rescue for letting us be a part of their transport today and for saving these two.

We have our 1st Free Microchip Clinic of the summer scheduled for Sunday June 30th 2024 from 2pm-5pm at Pet Supplies Plus in Galesburg, IL. Help us spread the word and Celebrate Microchip Awareness Month.

A few things to remember: We will be set up in the back of the store for our free clinic. If for some reason the line appears to be outside please wait in your vehicle with the air on until you can wait in line inside of the store. Dogs & Cats from any county are welcome! *Cats must be in carriers and dogs must be leashed or in a carrier. If you have any questions please feel free to send us a message or email us freedomrideanimalrescue@gmail.com.

No need to pre-register for this event however we will have a link to our downloadable form below that you can fill out in advance. Just show up between 2pm-5pm. Free Lifetime Registration and updates are included along with your Free Microchip. Help spread the word and share this great Free event! We will be accepting monetary donations for Freedom Ride Animal Rescue.

This morning Brandy and Ryan headed to Iowa to pick up 5 cocker spaniels before driving them back to meet Lynne from Rockstar Cocker Rescue in Galesburg, IL. Meet Mickey, Colleen, Faith, Pearl & Buffy. Thank you to Rockstar Cocker Rescue for saving these 5 dogs. Meet Flint, this handsome guy started his transport yesterday from Post TX to Galesburg, IL.

We received a call for help 2 weeks ago from Knox County Humane Society in Galesburg, IL to help Flint a dog that was in Texas and needed out asap. As soon as we got the call we reached out to Jean and Michelle who both helped us coordinate the transport of Parker from Florida last year. Countless hours of planning, setting up routes and lots volunteer coordinating go into long transports like this. Yesterday after 2 vet visits to get vaccines and his health certificate, Flint was ready to travel. 1,110 miles over 2 days, an overnight boarding, lots of love and licks and 15 volunteers helped make his transport a success. Brandy will be taking Flints final leg of his transport picking him up near Iowa City before heading to Galesburg, IL. Flint has been a joy for everyone who has meet him over the past 2 days and we can't wait until he finds his furever home. June 22nd, 2024

Meet Bacon, Koko, Bella, Maggie, Molly & 2 unnamed dogs from our transport yesterday. If you are interested in any of these dogs they will be vetted and before either Rescue will post them for adoption. Make sure to check their Facebook pages for updates and to see all of there other available animals for adoption. Thank you again Ruby's Rescue and Retreat and Quad City Animal Welfare Center for saving all seven of these dogs yesterday.

Mission Statement

Freedom Ride Animal Rescue is a 501(c) 3, non-profit, foster based animal transport rescue organization. We are a unique rescue committed to helping as many animals as we can, by providing free transportation from traditional shelters and breeder releases to no-kill rescues all over our surrounding area. We also provide overnight/temporary foster care for our furry travelers whose time has run out at shelters while waiting for their spot to open at one of our pre-approved no-kill rescues. 100% of donations go to the vetting and transportation of these animals giving them a chance to live and find loving homes.

WE ARE NOT IN COMPETITION WITH LOCAL OR REGIONAL SHELTER BASED RESCUES.
